AgrImpact Himalayan Specialty Coffee, Mandarin & Spice Impact District
District Overview
The district covers two complementary programme pillars: Pillar I — the introduction of Himalayan Specialty Coffee across approximately 5,000 hectares in North Sikkim (1,500–2,400m altitude), and Pillar II— an integrated processing, cold storage, packaging, and logistics facility for Sikkim Mandarin and long cardamom, connecting North Sikkim's growers directly to the United States market.
Designed as India's first globally benchmarked integrated agri-impact district — in active partnership with the Government of Sikkim's Department of Horticulture and Sikkim IFFCO Organics Limited.
Focus Areas
Economic Resurgence
Income increase through premium buy-back for coffee cherries, Mandarin, and cardamom; integrated US market access; post-harvest value addition; and diversified income structures that move farming households from subsistence toward economic resurgence.
Climate & Environment
Carbon sequestration through shade-grown agro-forestry, forest canopy preservation, Rainforest Alliance Certification, no-net-loss biodiversity commitment, renewable energy at processing facilities, and zero-waste circular compost return.
Sustainable Agriculture
Fully organic Integrated Pest and Disease Management (IPDM), precision crop science advisory, soil health and micro-climate monitoring, intercropping of coffee, Mandarin, and cardamom, and zero synthetic chemical input — certified under NPOP, Sikkim Organic Mission, and Rainforest Alliance standards.
Agri Eco-Tourism
A globally benchmarked agri-tourism destination designed by a renowned architect for sustainable biophilic design — rooted in the Kanchenjunga ecosystem and Sikkimese farming heritage. Eco-tourism revenues flow to a jointly governed Community Development Fund.
